The Amazing Race: A Writing Strategy - Grades 3rd-5th

*This is an ONLINE course.
**This course is taught in the PST Pacific Standard Time Zone.
The RACE strategy is a method used to thoroughly answer an open-ended text question. It is a simple writing strategy that can help students construct more thoughtful and rigorous responses to what they read. This course will teach students to become more sophisticated readers and writers while learning to draw inferences and summarize text.
For this online class,
students will need a private Gmail account to access a Google classroom link.
This course falls under the Communication, Critical Thinking, Information and Technology Literacy, and Personal, Social, Civic, and Environmental Responsibility Institutional Level Outcomes (ILOs).
Upon completion students
will:
Refer to details and examples in a text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text
Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details; summarize the text
Compare and contrast their own point of view from that of the author of a
text.
Student Expectations:
Be on time, sit where your device remains immobile and the camera/mic is directed to the face
Actively participate but do not chat or talk when someone else is talking, mics should be muted unless teacher calls on you
Communicate frequently, discuss any questions or concerns with instructor, read over syllabus thoroughly
Keep your camera on unless directed by the teacher, student faces only, no emoji’s or icons and wear appropriate dress.
