We desperately want to get children reading, but oftentimes the pressures placed upon them to do well at reading get in the way of making reading FUN! In this class, reading will be FUN! Students will be taught skills & strategies of reading using a variety of topics. Not only will this teach them reading know-how, it will allow them to explore reading a variety of topics. In doing so, students in this class will build upon skills necessary to progress at their level. They will also explore topics that might spark their interest. When they find a topic they love, they will reach for books on that topic, and they will WANT to read because it will be FUN to learn more about a subject they truly enjoy.
Student Learning Objectives
Summarize a story’s plot, setting, and characters and be able to respond to issues of literature as well as facts or story events
Read aloud with fluency, self-correct for meaning
Exposure to a variety of subjects and genres of literature
Build vocabulary by reading, use sentences to determine meaning and point of view
Be on time, sit where your device remains immobile and the camera/mic is directed to the face
Actively participate but do not chat or talk when someone else is talking, mics should be muted unless teacher calls on you
Communicate frequently, discuss any questions or concerns with instructor, read over syllabus thoroughly
Keep your camera on unless directed by the teacher, student faces only, no emoji’s or icons and wear appropriate dress.
